Tuesday, September 5, 2017, the Foyer of the College of Health Sciences, Benue State University, Makurdi came alive as friends and associates of Professor Abraham Malu, the pioneer Chief Medical Director, Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi converged to honour the invitation to a send-forth party for the former member of Court of Governors of the College.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Dennis Ityavyar congratulated the honouree for a successful tenure of service as the Chief Medical Director, Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi and called on his successor to consolidate on the achievements Prof. Malu had recorded by laying a solid foundation for its take-off.
Prof. Ityavyar acknowledged the University as Centre of excellence and encouraged Staff to embark on quality research to take the University to greater height. He appealed to ASUU and other unions to call off their strike for the sake of the Benue child.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Msugh Moses Kembe, while welcoming guests, thanked God for making the event a success. He disclosed that the send forth was a decision of the Court of Governors to appreciate the honourees’ meritorious service and immense contributions to the development of the College of Health Sciences and Teaching Hospital.
Professor Kembe appealed to staff to emulate the good works of Prof Malu by being committed and dedicated in their respective disciplines for positive results.
Earlier the Provost, College of Health Sciences, Prof. Simeon Adelani Adabisi, described the celebrant as humble and hardworking, who contributed tremendously to the development of the College of Health Sciences and the Teaching Hospital, stating that, the University community was proud to identify and celebrate with him.
The incumbent CMD, Professor Terlumun Swende, described Prof. Malu as not just a father-figure in the literary sense but also a mentor and guardian of all times.
The chief celebrant, Prof Malu expressed happiness for the send forth in his honour. He thanked the Vice Chancellor and those that contributed to the success of the event.
Prof. Malu expressed his most gratitude to God almighty, former governors of Benue State Senator George Akume, Gabriel Suswam and incumbent Governor Samuel Ortom for their support for making the College of Health Sciences and Teaching Hospital a reality.
He promised his support and contributions to the development of the Teaching Hospital, even in his retirement.
With him to share the glory of the recognition by his colleagues were his wife, Dr Keziah Malu, an Ophthalmologist and a former Ag. Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Shima Gyoh, a Surgeon and former CMD, Jos University Teaching Hospital.
The Benue state University Art Theatre Troupe entertained guests at the event.
