BENUE STATE PRESENTS CASE AT NATIONAL SECURITY SUMMIT

Benue state Government  yesterday made its presentaton at the two – Day Summit on National Security  put together by the  Senate ad-hoc Committee to review the current security infrastructure in Nigeria. The discussions  were held in closed sessions.
State Deputy Governor, Engr Benson Abounu who presented the state position dispelled the notion that the introduction of the open grazing prohibition and ranches establishment law was responsible for the massive killing of innocent people of the state by Fulani herdsmen. He told the summit that before the enactment of the law, Benue state had suffered from over 48 attacks with many fatalities and said it was the frequency and high casualty rate that made the state enact the law, prohibiting open and uncontrolled grazing of livestock, in consonance with best global practice.
Chairman, Benue State Traditional Rulers  Council and Tor-Tiv,  V,  His Royal Majesty Orchivirigh Prof. James Ayatse had earlier made his presentation to the Summit on Thursday last week.
