The Medium is the message. The medium plays a key role in holding public officials accountable. Therefore, it was wrong for Channels Television crew to allow Amaechi get away with misinformation, when they have all the relevant visuals.
Channels TV watched Amaechi lie on campaigns when they were one of the key media houses that covered Wike on campaigns. Wike Campaigned in all the 23 Local Government Areas, aside direct project visits.
In some instances, Wike visited wards.
Aside Governor Wike, the Rivers PDP Campaign team campaigned in all the 4442 polling units. The Governor’s ‘Deliver Your Unit’ strategy ensured that PDP campaign teams campaigned directly in all the polling units.
It is rather unfortunate that Amaechi would say nobody was killed during the Governorship election in Rivers. The Channels crew kept quiet and forgot that they reported the Murder of Dr. Ferry Gberegbe at the Bori Governorship collation centre by F-SARS.
Channels Television forgot that they reported when the Governor paid a condolence visit to the Gberegbe family. Dr. Gberegbe was a Collation Agent of the PDP and was killed protecting votes. In that collation centre, several persons were killed.
Amaechi as usual, was clever by half when he pretended not to know the reason behind the suspension of collation of results .
INEC was clear on the matter. They stated that voting had been concluded in all the polling units, but operatives of the Nigerian Army worked to subvert the process.
The Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) in Rivers State accused military and police personnel of placing the Rivers State INEC office under siege. The INEC in Rivers State further declared that the military and police personnel are illegally screening Collation Officers , thereby obstructing the Collation process for the Rivers State Governorship Election.
The Head of INEC Department of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr Edwin Enabo made the declaration in an interview with newsmen on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at the INEC Headquarters in Port Harcourt.
He said: “The INEC office is under siege by men in army uniforms, uniforms of the Air Force and police who have taken over. They are stopping and screening people. They are clearing results before they enter the office to the extent that uptill now no Collation has been done”.
The entire world watched in shock as soldiers raided the INEC Governorship collection centre in an attempt to manipulate the process.
Channels Television also broadcast the invasion.
APC was not allowed to run because of the impunity of Amaechi. He closed the door to other party faithfuls and manipulated his party’s congresses. The misfortune of the APC and her exclusion from the ballot was squarely due to Amaechi’s evil machinations, he wanted to impose his business partner on his party and his party faithfully revolted.
Senator Magnus Abe has made this public on several occasions. It is infantile to blame Governor Wike and the Judiciary for his crime against his party.
The terror unleashed by the Nigerian Army at Ogu/Bolo, Okirika, Eleme, Ikwerre, Akuku-Toru, Oyigbo Governorship collation centres were well documented. The videos have since gone viral. For example, in Ogu/Bolo and Okirika Local Government Areas, women were captured on video resisting invading soldiers at the Governorship collation centre. Channels Television also reported these facts.
Most importantly, international observers, especially the United Kingdom Embassy in Nigeria were the first to raise the red flag on the Nigerian Army. They indicted the Nigerian Army for their ugly attempt to rig the 2019 Governorship election in Rivers State.
Amaechi struggled in vain to claim that the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu favoured Governor Wike because he was TETFUND’s Executive Secretary whilst Governor Wike was a Minister of State for Education. This is standing logic on its head. If Amaechi thinks that once people work together in the past, they can no longer be independent, why then is he Governor Wike’s arch-rival?
Contrary to Amaechi’s desperate falsehood on Channels Rivers people overwhelmingly voted for Governor Wike across the State. That election was a confirmation of their support for his outstanding performance. That was why they defended their votes at the risk of their lives.
The Former Deputy Governorship Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Rivers State , Chief Akpo Bomba Yeeh, while withdrawing from the AAC ticket declared
“The March 9 , Governorship election in Rivers State has been lost and won; lost by my party, African Action Congress (AAC) and its Candidate, Engineer Biokpomabo Awara, and undoubtedly and overwhelmingly won by the Governor of Rivers State, the candidate of PDP, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.
He said that despite the interference of the security agencies, Rivers people stood their ground and voted for Wike.
He said: “The collated results further showed that contrary to the false claim of fictitious lead by the AAC/APC alliance, the PDP overwhelmingly won all the elections in 18 out of the 19 LGAs, culminating in the declaration and return of the party 26 House of Assembly Constituencies by the Constituency Returning Officers. This fact was confirmed on the 13th of March 2019, when INEC stated, as a matter of fact, that it had in it’s safe custody collated results for 17 Local Government Areas as well as the declaration of the PDP Candidates for 21 State Constituencies. The outcome of the elections on March 9, 2019 clearly showed the preference of the people of Rivers State. Even the blind can see and the deaf can hear the echo that Rivers people overwhelmingly voted to stick with Governor Wike for the next four years to encourage him to continue with the good works” .
Amaechi told Channels Television that his struggle was to fundamentally stop Governor Wike’s re-election. The people of Rivers State insisted on a second term for Governor Wike because of his outstanding performance and commitment to development. The resisted the Army to prove that power belongs to the people.
On security, Amaechi admitted that Rivers State is more peaceful than the rest of APC States in the North West and North East. But he refused to tell the world that working with the Army he has played a negative role in frustrating the security architecture of the State. Amaechi used the Nigerian Army to frustrate the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps.
It must be stated that there is no State in the country that can compete with Governor Wike in terms of support to the security agencies. He has donated over 250 Van’s fitted with communication gadgets, supplied Armoured Personnel Carriers, provided gunboats and funds operational activities of all security agencies in the state.
My advice is that Amaechi should retrace his steps and desist from chasing shadows. Rivers people have spoken and their choice is clear. Governor Wike deserves a second term.
