The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has given accreditation to the Department of Accounting, Benue State University, Makurdi.
A memo conveying the full accreditation Status of the Department, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Msugh Moses Kembe, indicated that the full accreditation covers four academic sessions and will last up to 2019.
The Accreditation Certificate was presented to the University recently, at the National Head Office of ICAN, Ebute Metta complex, Lagos.
The Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Dr. Paul Angahar, who represented the Vice-Chancellor at the ceremony, was accompanied by the Head of Accounting Department, Dr. Terungwa Azende.
The implication of this accreditation is that graduates of the Accounting Department of Benue State University will only write the final stage of the ICAN Examination in order to quality as Chattered Accountants.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Msugh Kembe, said it has reinforced the confidence of the University Management in its efforts to reposition the institution as a University of first choice in all disciplines of learning.
